Summer Holiday 09 - Science & History Lessons

Day 2 - London (Sat. 11 July)

Our apartment is just a block away from The Natural History Museum and The Science Museum, 2 Museums that guaranteed to be interesting for my boys and further down the road is Hyde Park. My kids enjoys going to Parks so today we started early again targeting Hyde Park first.

Albert Memorial

Hyde Park
Hyde park was a hit with the boys. It was larger and prettier than St.James Park. There were a large pond where swimmers swam with the ducks. Weather was cloudy and chilly but otherwise it was fine. There were reports that London was experiencing a hot summer so I had packed mostly shorts and t.shirts for my boys.

Hyde Park

The boys played with some toy planes and boomerangs that we had bought for them from Hamleys. I had taught the older boys the difference between the value of the Pound, the Euro and the Hong Kong Dollar so they were aware that its expensive here for us Asians.

Royal Albert Hall

The Science Museum

Science Museums are always a hit for my boys. Hong Kong do have a good one but the London Science Museum is in another level. The first thing we watch was the much lauded 3-D cinemax theatre and my kids had chosen the boy bait title "Sea-Monsters" which turns out just an average fare and my 4 year old actually slept half way through. The was plenty to do and see here and we had lunch at a kid's friendly cafe on the ground floor.

The Natural History Museum

The Natural History Museum is also a good place for kids but my hubby was feeling unwell and so we only manage to browse half of this magnificent museum before walking back to our apartment.

After a few hours rest I took the kids via the tube to Harrods. Knightsbridge is only a stop from South Kensington. I had forgotten that it was Saturday and it was in the middle of the July Sale so Harrods was jammed pack with shoppers and as I was on my own with the kids it was a struggle to keep everyone together.

We basically manage to get to the foodhall and we browse the many many selection of edible goodies available there. Bought our dinner takeaways and head home to daddy for dinner. Fortunately he was feeling better but everyone agreed to another relaxing evening at home.
